According to Matt DiRision, in Finnish Mosin-Nagant, M28-76 production commenced in the mid 1970s to function as sniper trainers, sniper rifles, or marksmanship training for the Finnish Defense Forces and Finnish Border Guard until the late 1990s.
This 1935 dated SAKO SK.Y. barreled M28/76 rifle began its Finnish life originally as an M28-30. Then it was converted to an M28/57 target-grade rifle and finally in the mid to late 1970's into it's current configuration as an M28/76. The FDF chose to use 28-30 as the platform due to its superior barrel dimensions and accuracy. Only about 1000 M28/76 rifles were imported into the USA.
This M28-76 trigger has a 2 stage M27 target type. SA Finn Bolt KE proof; bolt works smoothly. Sights are a double-aperture arrangement, with a tiny peep on the rear and an aperture in the front. "S" gear wheel proof on barrel at front of rear sight. Matching numbers on receiver, ejection rail, and bolt knob.
The rifle features a heavy target stock with bottom/side rails for sling and accessory attachments. The stock features very full palm swells and an elevated comb. Import marks found on bottom of barrel in front of forearm of stock.
