Description:
This lot contains: three eight round wooden cartridge blocks for the .40 caliber Roper Revolving Rifle; three leather pockets from a six pocket Roper Cartridge Belt; and three original, reloadable steel .40 caliber steel cartridge cases. One of the leather pouches is in good shape, while one has detached seams along one side, and the third is merely the side walls without the floor and cover flap. All three blocks are original and have the central dimpled clearance for the backside of the brass closure studs present on each pocket. The steel cases resemble modern belted magnum cases, and are in fine condition, with some scattered specks of dark freckling on the sides, and each has a fired primer in the base. Roper cartridge belts are very seldom seen, and most surviving examples were intended for various popular gauge Roper shot-shells. Roper rifle cartridge belts are extremely rare, not many were produced and the leather used was very thin and fragile, so this partial example would still make a wonderful addition to any collection.
