The Remington Model 788 was developed to fill a perceived niche for an everyday gun in the Remington line up. The idea was to claim the everyday hunter, looking for a rifle without breaking the bank for a Model 700. They feature a hardwood stock, more use of plastic parts, and uniquely, a rear locking bolt system. Theresult was something of a fiasco as the rifle shot so well, it cannibalized sales from the more profitable 700 line. This one is chambered in .223 Remington and doesn't appear fired much, if at all. Sure to be a go-to rifle for varmint control and target shooting. .223 Remington
