Description: Antique Colt Single Action. Here is a very crisp and tight antique Colt Single Action. Factory letter included. S/N 178709 and made in 1898. Caliber is the excellent shooting 38-40 and has the desirable short 4 3/4” barrel. Factory letter confirms all of the above with blue finish and rubber grips and shipped to the well know Simmons Hardware St. Louis Missouri May 16th 1898 in a 10 gun shipment so it letters ALL THE WAY. The gun has no finish and is now a medium gray color.. Excellent marking and screw heads throughout and nothing messed with or burred up from tinkering. The front sight looks to be lowered a little from a previous owner to better sight the gun in. The mechanics are excellent.. Crisp and tight as a new gun. NO cylinder side to side wobble and no front to rear cylinder movement. This gun is as tight as the day it left the factory. The grips are excellent as well with all the fine checkering showing very little wear with NO cracks or chips and a perfect factory snap on fit. The bore is excellent with very strong and sharp rifling.. NO pitting with just very light frosting only. Best bore I have seen in a Colt SA for a long time. The cylinder chambers are mint and bright with NO roughness. This is a completely honest and 100% straight up Colt SA at a reasonable price.. I don't think it was ever shot much and probably carried in a holster that wore off the finish.. I just watched one just like this one in the 166xxx range go for over $3500 a couple days ago and it had a later incorrect hammer!!! Please someone buy this thing before I decide to keep it for myself. Please go to the first link in blue to see all Tom Boyer's listings..
