This H&R .22 Long Rifle Heave/Large Frame “22 SPECIAL”; 6-Inch Heavy & Ribbed Barrel; Fixed Sights (Front Blade); Saw-Handle/Hump-Top Grip; SN 5579XX – making it an early or intermediate model from the late 1920s or early 1930s. The 1st advertisement photo has this style of grips, while the 2nd ad photo has later grips. The Barrel Rib is marked in two lines ”HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON ARMS CO. / WORCESTER, MASS. U.S.A.” There are no Patent Dates and the Serial Number is on the Frontstrap with last 3 digits on the Cylinder. NOTE: This revolver is in too good condition to list as a “gunsmith special” or parts gun – although it has some mechanical flaws that could impact safety if ignored. Despite apparent tight action, tight closure with minimal wobble and good function, including the automatic ejector hand, the cylinder can be forcibly rotated (clockwise – the normal operating direction, by using considerable force) with the hammer cocked – unless the action is held closed to eliminate even the few thousandths of wobble. This may be due to a worn cylinder stop/bolt or spring(s). In the hammer-down position, as with many old top breaks, the cylinder rotates easily by hand. The Bore and Rifling are Excellent; Double Action trigger return is intermittent (needs to be nudged), and also may be due to a weak or worn spring. Single-Action function is entirely reliable. If misalignment goes un-noticed, it is possible that a cartridge may discharge with the cylinder misaligned to the barrel. We are not dealers or experts, and condition is best judged from the photos.
