Description:
32517-RARE WAR OF 1812 NEW YORK MILITIA BRITISH TOWER PATTERN 1793 BROWN BESS FLINTLOCK MUSKET. 39” smoothbore .75 caliber barrel with Tower proofs and inspector’s proof at center breech. Small “CROWN” stamp to the rear of the proofs stamped without an adjoining “BROAD ARROW”. Lock similarly stamped below the pan with the same “CROWN” without the arrow indicating that it was not a Royal Ordnance accepted musket. Lock plate also stamped “TOWER” and “CROWN/GR”. One of 1890 British muskets in the inventory of state owned arms of New York of February 15, 1809 (see Moller, Vol.2, pg.242). These muskets bear the circular cartouche of New York State Armorer John McLean with the New York Ordnance acceptance “V/BY” stamp along with McLean’s initials. A superb all original Brown Bess overall it is 100% original in every respect and the best Pattern 1793 we have had or seen. Beautiful metal with the original lightly patinated polish and stock with original finish. Working order and excellent bore. Also one of the muskets certainly in service during the major New York War of 1812 battles at Lundy’s Lane (Niagara Falls) and both the First and the Second Battles of Sacket’s Harbor. Only one of these we have seen and very historic. $7500.
