Winchester Model 1873 .44-40. A special order rifle made in 1878 and supported by a factory letter, serial 31289 has a 26-inch heavy octagon barrel (1.10 inches across the muzzle flats, ivory blade). Features include a set trigger, thumbprint dust cover and crescent butt plate with trap. DIMENSIONS: Weight is 10.0 pounds and the length-of-pull is 12.7 inches. CONDITION: The bore is viable (darkened, moderate roughness, strong rifling). Set does not engage. Hammer notches are solid. Metal finishes have browned. Wood has chipped at tang right. The price is firm and layaway is available. $9,000 plus shipping.
