Description: This is a very nice and elegant saber that measures 36 3/4" overall, with a 31 1/2" curved, quill-backed blade having blued and gilt half-length panels on the forte. The steel has an overall mottled plum-brown and pewter gray patina, with much of the original bright fire blue and gilt finish remaining on the forte panels. The brass hilt has a fairly ornate single branch guard with a single forward-swept quillon, and the leather grip is only lightly flaked, and still has the original intact braided wire wrap. The grips further fitted with a full brass backstrap that terminates in a Phrygian helmet style pommel. The saber is housed in the original leather and brass scabbard that has a long throat with Swiss Shield frog stud. The brass exhibits a mottled yellow-ochre patina, with some shallow dents scattered about. This is a very handsome mid-19th century Swiss sword, and is in very good plus condition overall.
