I believe it was made between 1850 and 1870. I have been collecting old west items for over 50 years. Like any antique, condition is the important factor. Most of these antique statues seem to have cracks, missing pieces, or have been repainted. This one appears to be all original and without such damage. What makes this one unique is that it was done by an Eastern United States or European artist that had never seen an American Indian in the west. Many of the features found on this sculpture show incorrect or a lack of historic details, but that is what dates it to the opening of the west. I believe this figure is intended to be American Indian of the west and dates it to the opening of the American west and is a mile stone of the real western art movement. I have seen other such art and it always fascinates me. This is the type of piece that you would find in Victorian home in America or on the Continent. This measures 15 inches tall and over 14 inches long by 6 inches wide. Price: $962.52 |
