Description:
Serial #916, .22 Rim Fire (black powder), 2.5 inch octagon barrel with a fine dark bore showing a crack on the bottom facet extending most of the way down the barrel. This is a 2nd Model Allen & Wheelock Sidehammer revolver manufactured from 1859-1863. This second model features the roll marked cylinder scenes and is identified by the the cylinder pin held in by a screw, the only .22 model to use this mechanism. In excellent restored condition the spur trigger revolver retains virtually all of the professionally added bright nickel finish showing some very fine underlying roughness and slight filling of detail of the roll cylinder engraving and barrel markings. The rosewood grips rate about excellent and are correctly numbered to the gun. Mechanically it functions properly with correct indexing, the hammer holding at half and full cock releasing with a crisp trigger pull. A beautifully restored example of these scarce second model sidehammer revolvers.
