Payment Types Accepted: Cash, Check, USPS Money Order Description: This Colt Army Special, .38, single action / double action, six-shot revolver has a blue finish, a six-inch barrel, black hard rubber, checkered grip panels, fixed rear sight and front site. The year of manufacture is 1919. The barrel is stamped on the left side, just forward of the frame, with “COLT”. Just to the right of that is “ARMY SPECIAL” in half-size letters with ARMY positioned over SPECIAL. Just to the right of that is “38” in the same size letters as the preceding COLT. The top of the barrel is stamped “COLT’S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A. (first line) and PAT’D AUG 5 U1884, JUNE 5 1900, JULY 4 1905”. The rampant colt logo is stamped on the left side of the frame between the left grip panel and the cylinder release. “VP”, the Colt proof mark, is stamped on the left side of the frame, just to the top left of the trigger guard. The serial number 434399 is stamped on the inside of the crane and again on the frame, opposite of the crane. Both are visible when the cylinder is swung out. Excluding the right-side grip panel, the overall condition of this gun is 98 percent. It retains 100 percent of its original blue finish. The barrel is very nice, with just a very small touch of wear on each side of the muzzle wear the gun was probably drawn from a holster very few times. The frame doesn’t have quite the deep luster of the barrel, but has no marks or other blemishes. The cylinder has some wear on the high points of the flutes at the front end of the cylinder and a couple of minor scratches. The most significant defect on this gun is the right-side grip panel; it is broken in half. Also, it is chipped on the bottom front corner where the hard rubber meets the bottom front corner of the front strap. The left-side grip panel is near perfect, except there is a chip on the top left corner of the center C that is around the grip screw. Aside from these deficiencies, the checkering and other designs on both grip panels are deep and crisp and show no sign of handling wear. If you might be interested in buying this gun, there is currently a set of grips matching the ones on the gun available for sale on the internet for $62.45.
