Description: Excellent Conditioned Colt National Match 1911 in SCARCE .38 Wadcutter Offered here for sale is another newly acquired fine collectible from Hansen & Hansen. This is a very fine and original Colt National Match 1911 auto pistol in SCARCE .38 Special (Wadcutter). The Colt 1911 National Match .38 Special Mid-Range (MR) pistols were precision-engineered for competitive target shooting, particularly in bullseye competitions. Introduced in the late 1950s, these firearms were chambered specifically for .38 Special mid-range wadcutter ammunition, catering to shooters seeking reduced recoil and enhanced accuracy. The serial number format for these models typically includes an "MR" suffix, denoting "Mid-Range." In this case serial number "9389-MR" was manufactured in 1971. The National Match .38 Special MR pistols were built on the M1911 platform but incorporated several modifications to optimize performance for target shooting. Early models featured service sights, but as production progressed, enhancements included Micro and Elliason adjustable rear sights, providing shooters with precise windage and elevation adjustments. The barrels were specifically designed for .38 Special wadcutter ammunition, ensuring optimal accuracy. Standard grips were checkered walnut panels adorned with gold-colored Colt medallions, offering both aesthetic appeal and a secure hold. Throughout its production run, the National Match .38 Special MR underwent several refinements as mentioned transitioned from service sights to Micro and later Elliason adjustable sights. This specimen shows very little use and is offered in 99%+ condition. Because of the large number of collections acquired recently, many of these fine specimens were given a cursory inspection and given that they were in excellent condition we have posted them for sale even if there were some telltale dried oil showing in images as is the case with this one. However the pistol is ALL ORIGINAL and appears to have seen very little if AT ALL USE. We will finish cleaning before shipping but would rate this a GUARANTEED 99%+ CONDITION. The Colt National Match .38 Special MR pistols are highly regarded among collectors and shooting enthusiasts due to their precision engineering and historical significance. The Colt 1911 National Match .38 Special MR pistols represent a significant chapter in competitive shooting history. Their specialized design, tailored for precision and performance, continues to be celebrated by collectors and marksmen alike. The SM-prefix models from the early 1970s are particularly prized due to their vintage status and the fact that they were made during a period when Colt was still producing pistols with traditional craftsmanship before moving to more modern manufacturing techniques.
