Offered here for sale is another newly acquired fine collectible from Hansen & Hansen. This is an UNFIRED 1st EDITION original Colt Delta Elite 10MM auto pistol. The Colt Delta Elite Government Model is a 10mm Auto semi-automatic pistol based on the classic Colt 1911 platform. It was one of the first mainstream handguns chambered in 10mm, introduced in 1987 to take advantage of the round’s superior power over .45 ACP. The Delta Elite is a Full-size Government Model 1911 and a blued steel and slide. It holds 8+1 rounds.Barrel Length: 5 inches. Single-action, hammer-fired. Standard fixed sights. Grip Safety & Thumb Safety are standard 1911-style safeties. Distinctive Delta Elite Logo on the grips. Originally designed to take advantage of the FBI’s interest in 10mm Auto during the late 1980s.
The Colt Delta Elite 10mm Auto Pistol first edition was issued in 1987. It was the first semi-automatic pistol to be chambered in the 10mm Auto cartridge, a round developed for the FBI in the 1980s. The Delta Elite was designed to handle the power of the 10mm cartridge and became a popular option for both law enforcement and civilian use.
This specimen is a DELUXE 1st Edition 1 of 500 Colt Delta Elite pistol. Low Serial number 41 of 500 is was made in the first few weeks of production. The specimen exhibits high lustre blued finish with gold highlights on slide denoting its status as first edition. Markings: The right of the frame is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A. / DE0041”, the left of the trigger guard is marked “A” and “VP” in triangle, the right of the trigger guard is marked “0” the top of the barrel is marked “-CAL. 10 MM AUTO-“. The following markings are in gold. The left of the slide is marked “DELTA ELITE / -COLT AUTO-” with “10mm” in triangle in the center, the right is marked “First Edition”, each side has a rampant colt logo in circle behind the serrations.
Barrel Length: 5″ . The front sight is a ramped blade with a white dot fixed to the front of the slide and the rear sight is a square notch with two white dots dovetailed to the rear of the slide. The grips are two-piece smooth wood with gold colored Colt medallions. The pistol shows no wear and save for a couple of marks on the base of the magazine is in 100% condition. In addition this pistol comes in a DELUXE wood hinge-lid Colt case with clear lid and red fabric-lined french-fit interior. A single magazine is included.
The Delta Elite was introduced in 1987 as a 10mm version of the 1911. The 1911 already had a following, of course, while the 10mm cartridge was popular as a result of Jeff Cooper’s involvement in its development and use in the Bren-10. It has remained popular with fans of the 1911 and the 10mm cartridge ever since. This example was made in 1987, the first year of production and perhaps the FIRST FEW WEEKS OF PRODUCTION make it additionally DESIRABLE for the collector. The first 500 Delta Elites were given gold markings on the slide, smooth wood presentation grips and were equipped with a presentation case for display.
