History of the Remington 870 LW (20 Gauge)
The 870 Lightweight (LW) series was introduced in the 1970s as a lighter version of the standard 870, primarily chambered in 20 gauge.

Initially, the LW models were built on a smaller, lightweight aluminum receiver, but later Remington transitioned them to the standard 870 12-gauge frame (called the 20 Gauge Standard Frame).
