Offered here for sale and just acquired among a large collection of sporting arms from an estate is this excellent opportunity for the shooting enthusiast as well as the collector to acquire an authentic Colt 1911 9MM auto which could well be an employee “lunch box” takehome pistol. The Colt Commander Model 70 is a part of the Colt 1911 series of semi-automatic pistols. The Commander model was designed as a more compact version of the original full-size Colt 1911, making it more suitable for concealed carry or as a duty weapon. The Commander variant of the Colt 1911 is a shortened version, typically with a 4.25-inch barrel, as opposed to the standard 5-inch barrel found on the full-size model. The Commander is known for its slightly lighter weight and more compact design while maintaining the same reliability and ergonomics as the full-size model.
With our offices in Connecticut just 45 miles south of the Colt factory in Hartford we have acquired this pistol serial number 70B595400 from an estate of an individual who had a direct connection with the firearms industry and had access to a myriad of Colt parts and accessories. As such, we encountered in his estate this specimen whose frame is the Series 70 but the barrel and slide are of an earlier vintage and not appropriate to the frame. Judging from the history of this individual this specimen was acquired it was stated from a factory employee who worked in a department of the company. The pistol is in fine condition although images show some fried oil and smudges in protected places as we have a great number of guns acquired recently and not the time to clean all of them yet. We will do so before shipping and would rate this a guaranteed 98-99% condition and with its 9MM caliber quite a scarce collectible Colt as well.
