Fine Colt Post WWII Officer’s Model Target .22 Revolver
Offered here for sale and just acquired among a large collection of sporting arms from an estate is this excellent opportunity for the shooting enthusiast as well as the collector to acquire an authentic Colt Early postwar Officer’s Model Target .22 double action revolver. This specimen serial number 52168 was made circa 1948. It has a 6” barrel with adjustable sights. During the early post WWII years and into the 1950s the Colt factory used any parts available as a cost cutting measure and this specimen highlights the same.
The vintage barrel stamped "OFFICERS MODEL TARGET" in capital letters refers to a barrel used in the Colt Officers Model Target revolver, which was a part of Colt's Officers Model series. These revolvers were designed primarily for target shooting and were produced from the early 20th century until the 1950s.
The Colt Officers Model Target .22 was specifically chambered in .22 LR and designed as a target pistol. The inscription "OFFICERS MODEL TARGET" was typically found on the barrel of earlier models, indicating its connection to the target-shooting variant but not manufactured originally with the revolver frame.
This stamp could be seen on a number of Colt Officers Model Target revolvers, particularly those produced in the 1920s to 1930s, during the era when Colt used this particular stamping. However, this marking was also seen on later models up until production ceased. The overall condition of this revolver is fine and we would rate it at 95-97%. There is some dried oil in protected places which we have not cleaned yet as we have acquired a number of collections but we will clean before shipping. WE WILL GUARANTY CONDITION AS STATED. The bore is EXCELLENT. The grips, also of a different era are GENUINE FACTORY MEDALLION GRIPS.
For the collector who wishes a usual post war “parts” revolver as a variant or for the shooting enthusiast this is should be a most reasonable acquisition.
