Fine Colt Series 70 Combat Commander Model .45 Auto Pistol
Offered here for sale as a part of a very large collection of handguns from an avid target shooting enthusiast is this fine vintage Colt Series 70 Combat Commander .45 auto pistol. ?The Colt Combat Commander is a variant of the M1911 pistol, introduced in 1970 as an all-steel version of the original Lightweight Commander, which featured as this one an aluminum alloy frame. The Combat Commander was designed to offer a more compact and durable option, maintaining the 4.25-inch barrel length and standard 7+1 magazine capacity of the original Commander, but with the added durability of a steel frame but a more lightweight pistol to carry.
The specimen, serial number 70BS85821, was manufactured in 1981. During this period, Colt used the "70BS" prefix for blued Combat Commanders and "70SC" for satin nickel finishes.
The Series 70 designation, used from 1970 to 1983, is often praised for its fit, finish, and trigger pull quality. The pistol is all original accept for the hard rubber Pachmayr grips placed on the pistol by the former owner for a sure grip. The gun retains just about all of its finish. We have acquired so many collections that we have been unable to clean all of them but wished to get them listed for sale. Images may show some dried oil in recesses which we will clean off before shipping. WE WILL GUARANTY A 98-99% CONDITION. There are a couple of use marks and a few spots of light patina which were cleaned off. They are shown in images. Excellent bore. This should make a very fine addition for the shooting enthusiast and for those who have a pair of original factory grips this becomes an increasingly valuable Colt collectible.
