Offered here for sale as a part of a very large collection of handguns from a large estate is this fine vintage Colt Officer’s Model Target .38 revolver. The Colt Officer's Model Target was produced by Colt's Manufacturing Company, primarily designed for precision target shooting. Introduced in 1904, it underwent several iterations until production ceased in 1972. This, serial number 636172 appears to be a third Issue made in 1939 right in the middle of the model run from 1927 and 1949. The Colt Officer's Model Target revolvers are renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship .
The Officer's Model Target was a premier target revolver known for its precision and was favored by competitive shooters during its time. This specimen is all original and has not seen a great deal of use. It retains just about all of its original finish save for a slight cylinder turn mark and some wear on the high points of frame. Excellent bore. Sharp markings. 6 inch barrel. In normal lighting it appears that this revolver is NEAR MINT. Under our harsh 2000 watt photo lamps there is some aged speckling of patina within the blue not readily evident. Excellent grips. Conservatively a 98-99% conditioned pre-war Colt Officers Model target revolver made in 1939 which makes it doubly desirable.
