Payment Types Accepted: check, money order, cash Description: This offering is a somewhat unusual cross over type 99. It is NOT a "last ditch" version where the quality began to fall off, but it has some modifications to the original that made sense to the Japanese nilitary. For instance the stock does not have drain holes. They didn't need them. The bipod turned out to be next to useless so, while the barrel band has a place for one, it was nover mounted. There is no cleaning rod although the is a hole in the ftopnt fitting for one but not in the stock. And there are no wings for the rear sight to lead aircraft moving at 125 miles an hour. The quality of manufactue in superb. The beginning for that to fall off occurres a while later. I would guess this rifle was manufactiured in early 1944 or late 1943. I added the sling and the dust cover from new [roduction. I am pretty sure that when this was built there was no dust cover put on it. They were very noisy in the jungle so that m,ight not be authrnic for this rifle. Before the Koreqn War the US Army had a huge number of these rifles on hand that they wanted ti give to the South Koreans but they didn't trust the rifles. (Too many GIs had tried te fire real amm through iron practice rifles and, of course, they blew up. Hence the terible reputation.) The Army pressure tested them against the Mauser 98, the 03 Springfield, yhe Enfield MarkIV, et al. and they blew up every action bnut the Arisaka. The rifles went to the South Koreans and I load my own a little jeavy with excellent results. The 7.7 Jap round has almost exacly the ballistics of the .303 British. It is very close o the .308. Tje rifle has a few dings and the MUM has been rubbed off.
