The Sharps rifles were icons of the American Old West and were renowned for their long-range accuracy while also being one of the few designs that were successfully adapted to metallic cartridge use. The Special model is designed as a faithful reproduction to the upgraded Sharps rifles that were converted to firing metallic cartridges following the Civil War. These rifles were used by the American Rifle Team to win the first International long-range rifle match at Creedmoor, Long Island, New York.
