He opened his factory in Philadelphia in 1806 and would later become famous for his percussion pocket pistol. Nearly identical examples, are seen in "Historic Pistols" by Smith & Bitter, on pages 286 through 287. This 60 caliber smoothbore round 10 inch barrel is stamped "P" in a faint sunken oval cartouche on top of the breech. The lock is a good professional reconversion. The flat lock-plate has beveled edges and is stamped "H. DERINGER / PHILADA" in the center. The brass mounts retain a mustard patina. The stocked is plain walnut, and the wooden ramrod is probably a period replacement. The stock has several scattered pieces replaced on both sides. Price: $3,100.00 Antique: Yes |
