About this model.
There are a few different variations of this pistol. The most common ones seen are the Blue or Stainless "Custom Edition" Gold Cup Commander. The Stainless have a serial number prefix of GCC while the Blue model has a GCC suffixed serial number. Both with a wide grip safety, and fancy smooth Colt metalined grips. Not sure if anybody really knows how many were actually produced, but sellers and collectors have always touted two runs of 500 in each finish. However, since the GCC prefixed and suffixed serial numbers are sequential and there are known guns well over the 1000 mark that kind of blows that theory. Could be more made in one finish over the other, but again, I'm not so sure anyone, including Colt, actually knows.
The one we have for sale, is the less seen model Gold Cup Commander, not marked "Custom Edition. It came in Blue or Stainless, a very limited shop floor run. Standard small grip safety, serial number prefix GM, and Colt pebbled rubber grips. Currently unknown production numbers but considered much lower than the total number of the "Custom Edition" models.
Finally, there is a two-tone version (Blue over Stainless) Gold Cup Commander. Not marked "Custom Edition", three dot fixed sights instead of the Gold Cup adjustable type, wide grip safety, skeletonized hammer, serial prefix CGC, and fancy smooth Colt Grips. Rumored of 200 these.
