Description:
This is an extremely rare factory engraved with nickel and gold plating Model 1890 slide action rifle. 24 inch octagon barrel with a very good shiny bore. Sights include a Beach combination front with a fixed notched rear and a Lyman folding tang. Barrel and magazine tube retain most all of the factory nickel finish with only some very minor blistering. Very good markings. Factory engraved in number 8 pattern gold plated receiver retains over 70% gold plating with the balance turning gray. This is a Second Model with the takedown frame. Finely figured walnut stock with checkered pistolgrip and grooved forearm are in good condition with only minor handling mars. Hard rubber Winchester pistolgrip cap. Gold plated crescent steel rifle buttplate. Excellent functioning action. This rifle has the desirable factory $6.00 number 8 engraving pattern. The engraving features scrollwork and oval panel scenes showing rabbits on the left side and squirrels on the right. Scrollwork also appears on the bolt, trigger guard, lower tang and buttplate. Ned Schwing's book lists only 3 Second Model 1890's and a total of 7 Model 1890's total with the number 8 pattern engraving. This is an extremely rare Winchester rifle! Comes with a factory letter and would be the center piece of any gun collection.
