Made in the late 1950’s this game gun is a 7-pin sidelock with a fair amount of residual case coloring. Automatic safety and automatic ejectors. London-pattern Dickson sidelocks are somewhat rare and this one is in very good mechanical and cosmetic condition. Easy to carry for a day afield at 6lb 6oz. The 28” nitro steel barrel are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells. Rumors to the contrary notwithstanding low pressure 2-1/2” cartridges are available in the US from ARMUSA, Game Bore, and RST Shells. The bores are shiny and bright and the bluing is in excellent condition. The barrels are topped by a raised solid tapered gamestyle rib which is inscribed “John Dickson & Son (Incorporating Mortimer & Son.) Edinburgh”. The right barrel is bored 0.732 with a constriction of 0.005 for Skeet or Light Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.024. The left barrel is bored 0.731 and has a constriction of 0.016 for Light Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.026. The straight hand stock and splinter forearm are made of highly figured European walnut with a nice, warm hand rubbed oil finish. It features an Anson pushrod forearm release and there is a gold blank initial plate in the buttstock. Stock dimensions are 14-5/8” by 1-1/2” by 2”. Cast off for the right-handed shooter. Great handling and handsome double gun from a storied Scottish maker.
