Description:
Serial #32518, .30 WCF (.30-30), 26" octagon barrel with a very good bore that has some dark freckling within the grooves. This is a handsome rifle, made in 1897, that has retained 90-92% of the original blue along the barrel and magazine tube, and about 75-80% original blue on the frame. There is some silvering at the muzzle, along the edges of the barrel facets, and some minor scratches along the exposed portion of the underside of the magazine as well. The edges of the frame have faded to gray, with a sprinkling of plum-brown freckling on either side. Most of the original color case-hardening is still visible on the hammer, while the lever has muted color case-hardening and a pewter gray patina on the balance. The walnut forend has some attractive feathering in the grain towards the nosecap on the right side, with a few surface scratches and blemishes opposite, and some further minor handling marks scattered about. The plain pistol-grip buttstock has been professionally repaired at the wrist at some point. The repair is very very solid. The stock has minor handling marks scattered throughout, with some further attractive grain feathering at the heel of the butt on both sides. The rifle is accompanied by a 2016-dated Cody data sheet that confirms the rifle’s configuration, lists a serial application date of December 20, 1897, with a shipping date of April 23, 1898. This is a great-looking, well-preserved 1894 rifle, and is in very good-near fine condition overall. Antique;
