Here we present a Colt New Police Revolver, made in 1904 by the Colt Manufacturing Company with a production run from 1896 through 1907 in Hartford, Connecticut. The Colt New Police is a double-action, six-shot revolver that can operate in both single and double action modes. It is chambered for the .32 New Police cartridge, which is dimensionally identical to a flat-nose variant of the .32 S&W Long, differing only in nose shape. Additionally, the revolver was available in .32 Long Colt; however, the .32 Colt's diameter is approximately 0.020 inches smaller than that of the New Police. The .32 New Police Cartridge ultimately gained greater popularity than the .32 Colt.
Colt produced 49,000 units of the New Police model, notable for being the first standardized double-action revolver purchased by the New York City Police under Police Commissioner Teddy Roosevelt. The New Police Revolver was supplanted in Colt's catalog by the improved Colt Police Positive in 1907.
The overall condition is very fine. Original blue finish with some light holster wear. Excellent action. Shiny bright bore with sharp rifling. Fine great with minimal handling evidence. Markings are clear and legible. Visible numbers match.
