The MAS Mle 1949–56 (also known as the MAS 49/56) is a French semi-automatic battle rifle developed by the French military and manufactured by Manufacture d‚‚armes de Saint-Étienne (MAS). It is a refined version of the earlier MAS-49 and served as the standard French service rifle from 1957 into the 1970s, seeing use in various conflicts including the Algerian War and the early years of French involvement in Indochina.
