“Best Single Shot Rifle Ever Produced”-Ned Roberts
Here we present an antique Winchester Model 1885 High Wall Rifle chambered in .32-40 Winchester Center Fire, made circa 1893 in New Haven, Connecticut. This one has a number 3 octagonal barrel, which is heavier than standard. This one comes with blocks mounted to install a scope and all other sights have been removed.
The Winchester Model 1885 has a falling-block action, and two models were produced, the Low Wall and the High Wall. Ironically, this was Winchester’s first single shot rifle, the company having been founded on its winning lever action repeater design. John Moses Browning, the famed gun designer who forever changed the firearms landscape, began his career with this rifle in the 19th Century before dominating the world scene in the 20th Century.
The overall condition is fine. Very nicely refinished. The action is excellent. This one has a single set trigger which needs adjustment. The bore is fine: shiny bright with sharp rifling. The stock is smooth and solid. A great antique Winchester rifle!
