Description:
Exc. Early Post WWII Simson & Co. Suhl SXS Shotgun
Offered here for sale is a newly acquired classic shotgun for the sporting arms collector and vintage shooting enthusiast. This is a truly elegant and classic piece in that Simson & Co. Suhl side-by-side shotgun, especially given its near-pristine condition and craftsmanship.
Simson & Co. was a well-regarded German firearms manufacturer based in Suhl, a historic gunmaking center. After WWII, production in Suhl was heavily impacted by Soviet occupation, and much of Simson’s earlier high-end production style was either interrupted or repurposed. However, during the post-WWII era (late 1940s to early 1950s), some quality civilian firearms were produced under that name. Simson shotguns from this era, especially ones that show strong carryover of pre-war craftsmanship, are relatively scarce in this condition. Many were exported in limited numbers.
S/N 156973), it is a 12 Ga sxs shotgun, choked for FULL & CYL.. 30 inch barrels. Ideal for both clays and upland birds. 98–99% condition – exceptionally high. Likely stored with care and barely used. Hand-cut checkering on both the pistol grip and forearm, likely in a traditional point or diamond pattern. Fine walnut  stock– probably German walnut, which tends to be darker and richly grained. Scalloped receiver – adds elegance and strength. The scalloped “boxlock” action is often linked to higher-end models.  Beautiful vibrant case colors. Bores: Excellent. – further suggesting it was only lightly used and cherished by a meticulous owner. Retains all of its original blued finish on barrel-just a bit of lightening near muzzle as it could have been carried by hand by that means.  For the vintage shooting enthusiast the shotgun has a 1-5/8" Drop at Comb, 2-5/8" drop at heel and cast off 1/8".Given the maker, condition, and configuration, this Simson could be a welcome addition for collectors, especially those interested in postwar European double guns or German craftsmanship- and shooting enthusiasts alike.
