Offered here for sale is a newly acquired classic Smith & Wesson revolver just obtained from a prestigious firearms collection and comes to us with provenance as to its former important ownership and one with important historical significance.
This is a Smith & Wesson K-22 Masterpiece (Pre-Model 17) revolver– Serial No. 111100
The K-22 Masterpiece is widely considered one of the finest .22 target revolvers ever made. Produced in the early 1950s, it came from the golden era of Smith & Wesson’s craftsmanship — a time when every part was hand-fitted and tuned for perfect lock-up and precision. These revolvers were built on the square-butt K-frame, giving them centerfire-size heft and balance, which translated to remarkable accuracy and shootability.
But what elevates this particular K-22 to an elite tier is its ownership by Harry H. Sefried II. Harry Sefried wasn’t just another engineer — he was one of the most influential firearm designers of the 20th century. His résumé is a highlight reel of American firearm innovation. His work included:
- The selective-fire Garand (Winchester, WWII)
- High Standard Supermatic Citation – a top-tier target pistol of its day
- Chief Engineer at Sturm, Ruger (1959–1979), where he:
- Designed the rotary magazine for the Ruger 10/22
- Created the Ruger Redhawk, one of the most rugged DA revolvers ever made
- Left a legacy of mechanical elegance, innovation, and functional safety
That a master such as Sefried chose this K-22 Masterpiece and reserved serial number 111100 speaks volumes about the revolver’s quality and importance. The specimen is in UNFIRED condition and save for a slight cylinder turn mark would be 100% NEW IN BOX. Original factory gold box with papers.…it transcends being "just a collectible firearm."
