Description: General Specs: Winchester, 1958, .257 Roberts, 8lbs. 2oz., LOP 13 1/2″ Serial Number: 431357 Winchester’s Model 70 was called the “Rifleman’s Rifle” by many, including the shooting editor of Outdoor Life, Jim Carmichael. Known for its accuracy, rugged durability, and overall good looks, the Pre-64 Model 70 has continued to be in high demand and has grown in value yearly. Most of the Model 70 rifles produced were Standard Grade rifles in common calibers like the .270 Winchester and the .30-06 which made up almost 2/3rds of the total 581,000 pre-’64 Model 70’s. Only 2.52% of the total production was in the .257 Roberts and the Model 70 in this caliber is highly coveted by shooters in the know. The .257 Roberts is loaded on the 7mm Mauser case necked down to .257 diameter. This cartridge is known to have very light recoil, flat trajectory, and plenty of down-range energy for most all North American game. It is one of the better deer calibers available and breaks the 3000fps realm with 110 grain bullets. The ammunition is readily available. This rifle is an amazing find! IT IS COMPLETELY FACTORY ORIGINAL IN ALL WAYS AND RETAINS 99% OF ITS FACTORY FINISHES…TRULY A FINE PRE’64 MODEL 70. Serial number 431357 was built in 1958 and has 99% factory blue on the barrel, 99% factory blue on the action, and light wear on the bolt. The wood retains 99% finish and is wholly factory original with light handling marks. The bore is superb, rating 10 on a scale of 10 with sharp rifling and no pits. Even the bottom plate and trigger guard are 99% factory with no signs of carrying afield. There is always a difference in value when you go from 95% to 99%, as there are few remaining on the planet in this nice of condition. The bolt is serial numbered to the gun. This Model 70 is priced affordably and will make a great addition to your Winchester collection. It is an awesome hunting round for any area of the country.
