Description: General Specs: Merkel, 1974, 20 Gauge, 6lbs., Chokes IC/IM, LOP 14 3/8", DAH 2 7/16", DAC 1 1/2" Serial Number: 150114 Gerbruder Merkel of Suhl Germany is an incredible gun maker. They make all manner of fine guns that run the gamut from entry level side by side guns to more elaborate, fully engraved, ejector over under guns like the one being reviewed here. The Merkel 201E is a finely made shotgun with near full coverage game-scene engraving on the action, a 3 piece, slim, field-style forend, SOLID RIB, a reliable single selective trigger, and ejectors. This gun, sn150114 built in 1974, is in 99% untouched factory condition and is the perfect upland 20ga. gun weighing just 6lbs. and balanced on the hinge pin. Combine that with the English grip and slim 3-piece forend and you have a fast, dynamic upland gun you can carry all day with little fatigue. Choked IC/IM (my favorite pheasant chokes) and factory chambered for 3” Magnum shells, this is the ultimate versatile upland gun that can handle everything from woodcock, grouse and quail to late season pheasants and waterfowl. This 51-year-old example of fine German engineering shows as a new gun, with 99% factory finishes on all metal and wood (trigger guard 97%), mirror shiny bores, ribs tight, action tight on the breech face and hinge pin, single selective trigger that functions properly, cocking indicators, great stock dimensions and is a very attractive German made over/under. These are investment quality firearms that continue to gain value as you enjoy their use. These fine over/under shotguns do just as well on clay targets while practicing being a better shot afield. We are all aware of the top-quality engineering and materials that go into German made products and this Merkel is a great demonstration of what we expect from the Germans along with some very nice gun art in the hand-engraved scroll and game scenes. Take a close look at the details in the dogs and birds, the depth of the hand-cut engraving, the well-executed scroll and you will recognize that the older guns far outshine modern guns with their acid etched, laser-cut engraving that is fuzzy and cheap looking. There are few examples of the Merkel 201E for sale, especially in 20 gauge, and we have priced this gun to be the very best buy on the internet. Just in time for your summer of fun at the range, get this gun now and by fall you will be a superstar in the field. Don’t hesitate to call and make this one yours. Thanks for looking!
