Description:
***   SOLD   ***   Handsome Best Quality John Dickson & Son Dickson 12 bore bar lock rebounding hammergun with 30” nitro steel barrels and profuse engraving. Dickson 3281 was made in 1874 and recently refurbished in the Dickson workshop in Scotland. Highly figured French walnut stock and splinter forearm. Presented in its compact motor case with leather maker’s label. Weighs 7lb 6oz.

The 30” nitro steel sleeved barrels were proofed for 2-3/4” shotshells at the Birmingham in 2022. They are topped by a raised solid tapered concave gamestyle rib. The bores are shiny and the bluing is in excellent condition. The bore of the Right barrel is proofed and measures at 0.724 with a Quarter choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.028. The barrel of the Left bore is also proofed and measured at 0.724 with Half choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.028.

The straight-hand stock and splinter forearm are made of highly figured French walnut with heel and toe plates. The finish is superb and the checkering has been refreshed and is very crisp. Stock dimensions are 14-3/4” by 1-5/8” by 2-3/8”. Cast-off for the right hand shot.

There you have it. A handsome and great handling hammergun made in Scotland from the greatest Scottish gunmaker. Recently refurbished by Dicksons at their workshop in Dunkeld. If you have ever shot red grouse over a Scottish moor then you already know why you should own this hammer double.
