S&W .38 Military & Police Model of 1905 4th Change fitted with a 4-inch barrel, diamond checkered walnut grips with S&W medallions, is blue finished with color case hardened finished hammer and trigger, butt fitted lanyard, and chambered in .38 Special. Per the Smith & Wesson factory letter, this S&W M&P was shipped from the factory on May 28, 1941, and delivered to the U.S. Navy Dept. U.S. Naval Yard in Washington D.C. This shipment was for 300 units and was ordered for the Naval Civilian Police Corps, and stamped "U.S.N.C.P.C." on their backstraps. This S&W M&P is as described in the factory letter and is in excellent original condition, retaining 85-90% of its original finish, with most loss due to high edge wear and an area on the left side of the backstrap due to cleaning of some corrosion spots. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, and the action functions perfectly. The grips fit very well, are in excellent original condition, and retain most of their original finish, with assorted minor handling marks and no major chips or cracks. The gun has all numbers matching (Frame, cylinder, barrel, grips, and crane). Comes with a Smith & Wesson factory letter attesting to the configuration and stampings on the gun. A very rare find.
