Description:
1967 mfg. J.M. MARLIN M39A Golden Lever Action .22 RF C&R Rifle TACK DRIVER

VERY NICE Model 39A Rimfire Rifle w/ Hammer Extension

Here we present a C&R J.M. Marlin Model 1939A “Golden” Lever Action  Rifle chambered in .22 Rimfire, made circa 1967 in New Haven, Connecticut. Marlin was a serious competitor of Winchester lever guns around the turn of the 20th century. The Model 39 was handcrafted to be solid, reliable, and accurate .22-caliber rimfire rifle. It's claim to fame was its preferred use by none other than Annie Oakley, “Little Miss Sure Shot.” Oakley performed with the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show throughout the United States and later in Europe. She performed before the queen of England and even instructed her about shooting. She entered many shooting contests against men and won, which was unheard of in her day.

The Golden Model 39A started out life as the Marlin Model 1891, the first lever-action rifle ever chambered in .22 Long Rifle and the magazine was loaded through a conventional side gate in the receiver. The tubular magazine was changed to front-loading with the Model 1892, due to the difficulties of the receiver feeding the small rimfire round. The 1892 gave way to the takedown Model 1897, which became the Model 39 in 1921 and Model 39A in 1939. Changes between models were so minimal that the rifle is considered to have been continually produced to the same basic specifications for over 100 years.

The overall condition is very fine. Original finish. Excellent action. Shiny bore with nice rifling. Sold stock with little handling evidence. Markings are sharp. The hammer extension is a neat feature!
