Description:
General Specs: Fox, 1924, 20 Gauge, 5lbs. 11oz., Chokes M/F, LOP 14 5/16", DAH 2 1/8", DAC 1 1/2"
Serial Number:  202229

One thing for certain; the availability of top quality, graded 20ga. Fox shotguns has dwindled to nearly zero.  Shooter/collectors have recognized the Fox 20ga. guns are the most well-balanced, best handling guns of all the vintage American doubles.  This Philly-made Fox, sn202229 produced in 1924, is an awesome find.  They only made about 2400 A Grade 20ga. Fox guns, less than 1200 with ejectors, A FEW HUNDRED WITH FOX/KAUTZKY SINGLE SELECTIVE TRIGGER, and literally a handful with these features and 28” #4 weight barrels.    This is a very rare Fox, even with the alterations that have been made along the way.  Some of these little Fox guns stand out from the rest, and this is one of them.  Vintage American side x side makers only put English style stocks on about 10% of their guns, so those of us who love the racy look and handling characteristics of such guns have almost zero chances of finding one for sale.  THIS PHILLY FOX LEFT THE FACTORY WITH ½ ROUND PISTOL GRIP STOCK AND WAS UPGRADED TO A STRAIGHT STOCK BY A PREVIOUS OWNER.  WHEN YOU COMBINE THIS WITH THE FOX/KAUTZKY SST, EJECTORS, AND 28” No. 4 WEIGHT BARRELS YOU HAVE A GUN THAT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TOF FIND FOR SALE IN A LIFETIME.  If you like these features, you may have to accept the fact that the buttstock is a replacement.  See the factory order card and you will see the gun matches the order except for the stock.  The barrels retain 94% factory blue, have shiny mirror bores, tight ribs, are tight on the hinge pin and breech face and have double ivory beads.  PRESENTLY IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND 2 ½” 20GA. SHELLS.  BECAUSE OF THIS, VFI GUNSMITHS HAVE SAFELY LENGTHENED THE CHAMBERS TO 2 ¾” AND EXTENDED THE FORCING CONES TO 1 ½” TAPERS SO THAT YOU CAN SHOOT MODERN 2 ¾” HEAVY FIELD LOADS THROUGH THIS GUN.  This is a $440 service in our shop.  THIS IS A “VFI CERTIFIED” GUN, meaning we stripped the forend iron and receiver to the smallest parts, ran it through the Ultrasonic cleaner, inspected all parts for integrity and function, then lubricated and reassembled (a $450 service).  VFI CERTIFIED guns carry a 90-day mechanical warranty.  The action has 30% factory case colors, excellent screws, and the trigger guard has 99% blue.  Weighing just 5lbs. 11oz. and balanced perfectly on the hinge pin, the gun will make you smile when you pick her up.  If you like the gun and need some adjustments to make her “just right” for your needs, we have 5 gunsmiths working daily and we can make the alterations within a few weeks of your purchase, including stock bending, choke work, leather covered pads…whatever you may want.  We could even correct the checkering if you choose.  See the specifications in the tables below.  If you favor English stocks, ejectors, sst, 28” barrels, and lightweight bird guns, don’t let this one escape you.  It is an impossible group of features to find…ever! It will continue to gain value as you enjoy its use, so it is a grand investment tool for your hard-earned funds.  Thanks for looking!
