Description: Model 1877 Colt Lightning Sheriff's Model Double Action Revolver with V. M. Tinajero Skeleton Shoulder Holster, .38 Colt, mfg. 1890 with 2 ½" ejectorless barrel. This is a fine original Colt Lightning Sheriff's Model with a desirable 2 ½" barrel accompanied by a beautiful custom made tooled leather skeleton shoulder rig. The barrel, cylinder, and gripstraps retain 35% original bluing which is quite vivid in protected areas with the balance worn to gray. Case hardened frame has faded to a mottled silver/gray color with shadows of case color swirls visible. Considerable bright original fire bluing remains on the rear surfaces of the hammer and trigger. Original checkered hard rubber grips fit perfect and show light wear with one tiny surface chip on the right forward edge near the triggerguard. Clear original Colt address, three-line patent dates, “COLT. D.A. 38” marked barrel, and matching original serial number "76931" stamped on the frame, triggerguard, backstrap, and rear of cylinder. All original screws, loading gate, blade front sight, and correct original knurled cylinder pin which is unique to ejectorless models. The action is very crisp and smooth and functions perfectly in both single and double action. Cylinder locks up on time with typical moderate play. Excellent bore with bright shiny rifling which still retains factory milling marks with considerable original bluing on the lands and grooves. High quality custom tooled leather skeleton holster is in excellent condition and features a plugged bottom with shoulder straps. Marked “V.M. TINAJERO / LEATHERCRAFTER”. I can imagine this would be a very costly holster rig to have made. A scarce extra short-barreled Lightning in great shape perfectly complimented by a super cool shoulder rig!
