Designed by Nicholas Brewer: The Model 110 was designed by Nicholas L. Brewer in 1958. His goal was to create a strong, safe, accurate, yet affordable bolt-action rifle that was easier and less expensive to manufacture than competing models like the Winchester Model 70 and Remington Model 721.
Focus on Manufacturing Efficiency: Brewer‚‚s design ingeniously used investment castings and steel stampings for many smaller parts, simplifying manufacturing and reducing costs. The bolt itself was made of several easily produced components.
Barrel Nut System: A key feature was the barrel being threaded into the receiver and secured with a barrel locknut. This simplified headspacing and allowed for easier barrel changes, contributing to both accuracy and cost-effectiveness. This feature is thought to have originated from an earlier Savage Model 340 and potentially even a John Browning machine gun design.
