Description:
1830 Dated SCARCE Antique W.L. Evans U.S. NAVY Model 1826 FLINTLOCK Pistol

One of < 1,000 Made in VALLEY FORGE, PENNSYLVANIA

Here we present an antique W.L. Evans Model 1826 Flintlock Pistol manufactured in 1830 in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. This pistol is one of less than 1,000 manufactured by Evans. In 1825, John Rogers, a gun manufacturer in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, could not get enough money to fund his government contracts, so he went into business with W.L. Evans. They produced these Model 1826 pistols between the years of 1830 and 1831. Less than 1,000 of these particular pistols were made, making it very rare. This pistol was part of a contract for the Navy and is nearly identical to the Model 1826 made by Simeon North. Rogers and Evan’s factory was largely successful until a flood of Valley Creek washed away the entire factory. A new one was never built.

While the years in between the War of 1812 and the American Civil War may appear to be quiet, this period of American history was quite busy as more states and territories were born and settled, Native Americans were resettled, and both Native and slave rebellions were put down. Primary conflicts that would have involved this piece during its service life were the Seminole Wars, the Pawnee Expedition, the Mexican-American War and even the American Civil War.

The overall condition is good. Reconverted to flintlock. The action is strong. The bore is smooth and dim. The stock shows use. There is a graft type repair on the left side of the fore end and a smaller one at the top rear of the lock plate. Otherwise, solid throughout.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 8-5/8 inches.

Caliber: .57 Flintlock

Overall condition as seen in photos.
