This saddle shows original, roller boarder stamping on major parts. The saddle seat measurements are 16" seat / Fenders 17” long and wooden Western doghouse stirrups 5" wide x 5" high. This saddle has been completely restored by “Bragg Saddlery”. The beautiful condition of this saddle does not show its true age. It has a scant few handling marks from daily use. It is ready to ride with only the addition of cinches for its double rigging. A classic Old West and Military Saddle that would add an air of authenticity to any western decor. The leather tie strings have all been replaced. There is literally no surface cracking a great rarity on these old saddles. The tree is solid and true. New fleece has been added and is thick and all stitching has been redone through the original stitching holes and is tight and secure. You can count on this saddle to provide another century of service. Most of these were produced by Kansas City Saddlery back in the day. To have a saddle like this made new today would cost you $3000.00 plus. These 1917 model US Army "Packer's Saddles”. are hard-to-find, in good using condition and features double rigging and the standard horseshoe nail pouch behind the cantle. All original except for the conchos, strings and stirrups. This saddle was used by packers who used mules to haul equipment for US troops into rough or remote locations like Gen. " Black Jack " Pershing's Pancho Villa Expedition into the mountains of Mexico. These saddles were made from 1917-1942 and saw service during WWII in as far away war zones as Burma. This is an early saddle as the later ones had rounded corners on the skirts. The leather is in good shape with a good cleaning and gone over with saddle dressing. Price: $2,200.00 |
