Description:
For sale is a Lefever "A" Grade Model 5 shotgun.  These guns were produced from 1934 until 1939.
They were made in 12, 16, and 20 gauge and in 410 bore.  The total number of guns made was 2496.

I have done a little research on these guns, and based on the guns that I have seen for sale over about the last ten years, I did a "Survey" of sorts and figured up the percentage of guns that were sold in all gauges/bores.  I then calculated the number of guns that could have possibly have been produced.  Here is my estimate for the 5 year production run:

12 gauge   950
16 gauge   650
20 gauge   650
410 bore   246

Needless to say, they are very scarce.  The "A" grade was a "Deluxe" version of the Nitro Special.  To be honest,
I like them better than any other Ithaca shotgun.  They were known for their craftsmanship and enhancements in design and materials.  They employed a very nice checkering pattern, and the forearms had a small ebony wedge at the tip.  The engraving was a simple line pattern with stippling on the top of the receiver.  The overall look was clean, simple, and classic.

The guns were built on a "Semi Custom" basis.  Options were available.  Stock dimensions (within reason) could include variations in the length pull and drops.  Walnut stocks included better grade wood.

This particular gun, # 302093, was built (according to the Ihaca Serial Numbers) in the last week of 1936.
The gun is completely original with 26" barrels, double triggers, brass front bead sight, and extractors.  It has the factory 2 3/4" chambers.

The length of pull is 14" from the front trigger to the end of the butt plate.  Drops are about 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 inches.
The gun has chokes of about IC and Mod.  Ithaca used numbers on the barrel flats of their guns, and this gun has a "4" on the one barrel, and the other barrel is blank.  Often times a customer would send the gun back to Ithaca to have the chokes altered slightly.  The gun is tight on face without the forearm attached, and the lever sits far to the right at the top,
This gun was not used much at all.  The bores are bright, but it was hard getting a picture of the insides down the length of the barrels.

Overall, I see no cracks.  The wood is in good shape, with small scratches and finish wear.  The forearm has crazing and finish loss towards the front and the top of the sides.  Often times, owners of guns would put them by the furnace during the winter months so as not to pick up moisture, and this could dry out the varnish on the gun's stock.

Beyond a brief description, the pictures are the best indicator of the gun's condition.

Call or email if you have any questions.  Shipping and insurance are extra, at whatever the cost is.  I will send a copy of my driver's license with the gun.

Thank you.
