Description:
LAYAWAY?.58 caliber. 40" barrel. NSN. Bright finish, steel furniture, full length walnut musket stock. Single shot percussion ignition muzzleloading rifle musket with automatic Manyard's patent tape priming system, correct 1858 pattern leaf rear sight, musket combination front sight and socket bayonet lug, patch box in obverse butt, sling swivels and a swelled shank tulip head ramrod. Standard Springfield lock markings dated 1860 at the tail, matching 1860 date on top of breech with standard proof and view marks. Counterpane with a single script JS cartouche, that of James Stillman.
CONDITION:
Very good to fine overall....Scattered spots of surface rust from impropper storage. Boreis good-vg with strong rifling. Metal with scattered surface oxidation. Markings mostly clear in the metal and wood.Strong functional lock with complete Maynard priming system. Stock crisp with good edges. Sock very fine overall. I was ableto remove most surface rust and there's "age spots" left over, but slick like the remaing surfaces, The rest (lockplate) should clean very nicely.
