Classic Harrington & Richardson Auto-Eject Top-Break Revolver in .32 S&W. This revolver is a fine example of H&R’s craftsmanship from the early 20th century and features the iconic top-break design with auto-ejecting spent casings upon opening. A great piece for collectors of vintage American firearms or those looking for a functional piece of firearms history.

Condition:

Mechanically sound and cycles properly in double action.

Bore rifling is good.

Original grips intact with minimal wear.

We are unsure which exact model this handgun is, but we know it is a variation of the H&R Auto Eject line. The gun functions mechanically but has not been tested with live ammo. Do to that, we strongly advise having your local gunsmith look the gun over before firing with live ammo.

The Harrington & Richardson (H&R) Auto-Eject Revolver is a significant part of American firearms history, especially in the context of affordable personal defense weapons during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Here‚‚s a concise history:

?? Origins and Background
Harrington & Richardson Arms Company was founded in 1871 in Worcester, Massachusetts, by Gilbert H. Harrington and William A. Richardson. They became known for producing inexpensive and reliable firearms for the average American, including shotguns, rifles, and revolvers.

?? Introduction of the Auto-Eject Revolver
The Auto-Eject or Automatic Ejecting Revolver series debuted in the 1890s, capitalizing on the demand for faster-loading revolvers.

It was designed to automatically eject all spent cartridges when the barrel was tipped forward (a feature of top-break revolvers).

This was a significant convenience improvement over older models that required manual ejection of each spent case.

?? Key Features
Top-Break Action: The revolver opened by tipping the barrel and cylinder assembly forward. This action also engaged the automatic ejector star, pushing out all cartridges simultaneously.

Calibers: Commonly chambered in .32 S&W and .38 S&W, both popular for personal defense.

Double Action / Single Action: Many models were double action, allowing the shooter to fire by simply pulling the trigger, or single action, where the hammer could be cocked manually for a lighter trigger pull.

Barrel Lengths: Typically short (2.5–4 inches), making them ideal for concealed carry.

?? Popularity and Usage
H&R marketed these revolvers as affordable self-defense tools for civilians and backup weapons for law enforcement.

Their affordability and ease of use made them common in rural and urban homes alike.

Though not known for high-end craftsmanship, they were generally dependable.

?? End of Production
As swing-out cylinder revolvers and semi-automatic pistols became more popular in the mid-20th century, demand for top-break revolvers waned.

H&R eventually ceased production of these revolvers but continued manufacturing firearms until it was acquired by Marlin Firearms in 2000 and later became part of Remington Outdoors.

The brand has since been retired, although H&R firearms still have a strong following among collectors.

?? Collectibility Today
Auto-ejecting H&R revolvers are affordable collector‚‚s items today.

They appeal to enthusiasts interested in American working-class history, vintage firearms, and early self-defense innovation
