Description:
A MOST UNUSUAL WINCHESTER MODEL 1894! This beautiful condition "saddle ring carbine" with low serial number 6XXX, started out as a rifle built in 1895. At some point after 1905 when all new and returned guns were stamped with the Winchester oval proof mark, this 1894 went back to Winchester and was rebuilt into a special order carbine with 2/3 magazine in .32 WS caliber! The barrel has the ramped hooded front sight and late "MODEL 94" marking which leads me to believe the work was done in the late 1920s or 1930s. This carbine retains the crescent butt plate and all early upper tang markings. Correct for period buckhorn rear sight withramped/hooded front sight (hood intact). Overall in excellent condition with about all the Winchester blue remaining, exc. screw heads, tight action, strong safety half-cock and bright bore. All markings sharp and clear including the 1884 patent date on the upper tang etc. Exc. stock and forend with matching color and grain walnut. Overall shows only the lightest of edge wear. Since the .32 Winchester Special cartridge was introduced in 1902, this has to be one of the lowest numbers for a Winchester made one!
