After moving to New Hampshire in 1995, the online business was established, which specializes in vintage gun parts, militaria, sporting goods, and occasionally, collectible firearms from my personal collection. My goal is to provide you with quality items at reasonable prices, and moreover, to help you find the part that restores your gun, or the scarce collectible item that enhances your collection. In addition to selling, I'm always open to buying or trading, and reasonable offers are always considered! Thanks for looking! Description: If You're a Veteran, Active-Duty Military or Service Member's Family - Thank You! Offered for your consideration is an authentic Civil War era U.S. Pattern 1857 musket sling. These were originally designed for the Model 1855 rifle musket, and were later used on the Model 1861 and 1863 rifle muskets as well. There is a fixed loop on one end and a single brass hook at the other end. It measures approximately 56" long overall. The leather shows normal wear and handling marks typical for a 150 year-old military sling. The brass hardware shows some minor verdigris. The leather flap that encloses the hook has some loose/missing stitching; easily repaired if desired, but I'll leave that up to the buyer. There is what appears to be a period-made embellishment, about midway on the sling - the name "ELLA" carved in the leather. Maybe the soldier's wife or girlfriend back home? These slings came with a sliding keeper loop originally, but like many, this one was lost somehwere along the way, but it can be replaced fairly easily. Condition on these antique leather slings and similar accoutrements can be subjective, so please examine photos and determine condition for yourself. A seldom found Civil War sling that would be a fine addition to any collection!! Any questions? Just ask! Please note that all my items are subject to sale elsewhere, so if you are interested in this sling, you should buy it sooner than later before it gets sold and removed from Guns International.
