Description: Rare, tight and original .. this 10lb rifle was made to shoot 480gr "ringed" bullets over a greased cloth wad and 164gr of black (6 drams of No. 6 per the inscription on the steel buttplate), for circa 1750 fps. The 28" steel barrels have excellent bores and bear a single 100 yd platinum-lined leaf sight aligned as it left Purdey's works, on a file-cut rib. Stock has numerous nicks but is not worn, cracked or oil-soaked, 14 1/2" LOP, 1 3/4" and 1 7/8" drops with 5/16" cast off and blank silver oval, inlaid with a series of dots 1" apart presumably as an aid to measuring. Action is exquisitely engraved in bouquets and double line scroll and retains a good amount of color. Non-rebounding hammers with half cock and stalking safeties (one repaired), and side clips. Barrel blacking is thinning where you would expect it to, again with numerous nicks. Groove measures about .590. Purdeys built only 327 hammer rifles. Lettered. Tigers anyone? Price: $11,750.00 |
