The Luger was originally designed in 1898 by Georg J. Luger and first manufactured two years later by Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken (DWM). The Luger is a toggle locked, recoil operated, semi-automatic pistol that is chambered in 9mm Parabellum. It utilizes an adjustable front blade sight and fixed V notch rear sight that is located on the rear toggle link. It is fed by a single stack 8 round detachable box magazine, but it can also be fed by using a 32 round drum. The Swiss Army first purchased the Luger in 1900, followed by the German Navy in 1904 and German Army in 1908. The popularity of the weapon is understandable—durable, well-made, and with so many variations, making it the most popular collector gun in the world.
