Description:
Serial #4399, .38 Center Fire (black powder), 2 ¼ inch barrel with a fine bore with strong rifling and scattered light roughness. This is the second model Colt New Line 38 revolver manufactured circa 1875 with a total production run estimated around 5,500. The spur trigger pocket revolver is well marked with barrel top reading "COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. CO./ HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A." and side etched "COLT NEW 38" with "38CAL C" on the frame. In very fine overall condition the barrel, frame and cylinder show about 65-70% of the original bright nickel with the balance flaked off showing a pewter gray. The original varnished rosewood grips rate about excellent. The action functions on almost all hammer pulls but will hang up occasionally and it does hold at half and full cock with a crisp trigger pull. A very fine example of a relatively low production antique Colt revolver. Antique
