Description:
NSN, .75 Caliber, 42" barrel with a very good bore that has some mild freckling along its length. This is a very handsome musket that has an overall bright pewter gray patina on the barrel and lock. There is a small amount of spotty surface oxidation present, mostly on the frizzen, pan, and bridle, but all proofs and markings, including the "TOWER" marked lock and "WESTMORELAND M" unit marking on the barrel breech, remain crisp and clear. The lock is fully functional and locks up tightly at half and full-cock. The pin-fastened walnut stock is in very good plus condition with scattered minor handling marks and blemishes, including a straight, with-the-grain crack on the right side of the forend running back from the nosecap. The wood has handsome grain with feathering visible on the buttstock and a company and rack number are engraved on the wrist escutcheon: "9 / 15." The musket comes with an iron ramrod and "VII" is stamped into the ramrod channel. The Westmoreland Militia were a Nova Scotia regiment until Westmoreland was removed from Cumberland County, NS, and redesignated Westmoreland County, NB in 1787. This is a splendid unit marked, Revolutionary War era "Brown Bess," and would make a wonderful addition to any collection. Antique;
