Description:
Serial / Assembly #2, .28 caliber black powder percussion, 5 3/8 inch barrel cluster with 6 barrels showing fine to near excellent mostly dark bores with one barrel cracked almost the full length. This is the Stocking & Company single action pepperbox manufactured in Worcester, Mass in the late 1840's to early 1850's. The unique single action revolver features a long extended angular cocking spur on the hammer and is marked between the barrels "STOCKING & CO WORCESTER" and "WARRANTED CAST STEEL". The nipple shield is held in place with 3 screws. The frame and percussion cap shield display simple decorative engraving. In good to very good antique condition the barrel is mostly a mottled pewter gray with the balance of the frame, shield and hammer mostly worn metal gray. The walnut bag shaped grips with oval German silver escutcheons each numbered to the gun are solid with use marks, contusions and a minor edge chip. The trigger-guard is missing. Mechanically it is functional with the barrels rotating to the left and advancing with proper indexing with each cock of the hammer. An early low serial number, very unique looking Pepperbox that is seldom encountered. Antique
